368 Entertainers Boycott Ad Firm Over `X-Files'

A total of 368 entertainers belonging to 45 talent agencies announced yesterday that they will refuse to work with Cheil Communications, the advertising firm behind the making of the controversial document dubbed "Entertainers' X-Files".

The group, which includes such names as Bae Yong-joon, Han Ga-in and kwon Sang-woo, sent out a news release yesterday morning that until the situation surrounding the document is completely settled, the entertainers will refuse to work on any advertising project organized by Cheil.

Cheil admitted to have requested Dongseo Research to create a file in November detailing potentially damaging personal information and rumors about 99 top celebrities. While Cheil says the file was only intended for internal use to determine the value of potential entertainers in advertising and minimize the risk for advertisers, it was accidentally leaked via the Internet on Jan. 17 and has been at the center of public attention since.

"This incident isn't just about the entertainers, but about the violation of an individual's privacy", said Hong Jong-goo, a representative of the entertainers' group. "We're going to take every action and see this to the end".

Cheil is the largest advertising firm in the nation, comprising 17 percent of the overall market.
